Cowboys’ Micah Parsons pulls off wild scoop-and-score TD thanks to Justin Fields gaffe
The Dallas Cowboys offense started this game off strong by scoring four touchdowns on their first four drives for the first time in eight years. However, the defense came to play, too.
The highlight play for the defense came in the third quarter from none other than frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year, Micah Parsons.
On a 3rd and 17 for the Chicago Bears, Justin Fields dropped back looking for anyone to throw the ball to. It’s worth noting that at this point in the play, Parsons appears to be held (without a flag) behind where Fields is located.
The Bears QB is able to complete a pass to running back David Montgomery who begins to rush ahead to try and reach the line to gain. While trying to do that, Leighton Vander Esch gets a tackle on Montgomery which causes the RB to lose the ball.
From there, what happens is nothing short of remarkable.
Micah Parsons has an amazing scoop-and-score for the Cowboys thanks to a mental lapse by the Bears
From all the way in the backfield, Parsons appears out of nowhere to fall on the ball.
It would be impressive enough for the second-year defender to have a fumble recovery. But that’s not where the play ended.
The 23-year-old was smart enough to realize he was completely untouched by anyone on the Bears’ offense and got up to make his way to the end zone.
From there, the Swiss Army knife pulls out his running back moves, jukes a few players, and makes his way to the end zone.
The replay showed that Fields literally jumped over Parsons to avoid touching him, which would mark him down and nullify the touchdown. The slow-mo replay shows that the Bears QB literally missed hitting the Cowboys defender with a knee or a foot by maybe an inch.
How the Bears let that happen is mindblowing.
What’s even more impressive? Parsons ran a total of 92 yards on that play.
To recap, Parsons was on the 10 when Fields through the ball, he recovered the fumble at the 36-yard line and then booked it past a bunch of people to get to the endzone. Wow.
This was the second major refuse-to-give-up play from Parsons in two weeks after last week’s touchdown-stopping play that clocked the second-year player at almost 21 MPH.
Long live Micah Parsons. Mr. Everywhere. Mr. Unstoppable. The Lion.
