**10/23 Update: Since publishing, Todd Archer reported that Jourdan Lewis suffered Lisfranc foot injury. While there is no fracture, it may require surgery. If he misses time, DaRon Bland would fill his place.**
Dallas Cowboys‘ sixth-year cornerback Jourdan Lewis started Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions as a team captain who was ready to try and help his squad stop one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL.
Aside from their goose egg against the New England Patriots in Week 5, the Lions scored 35 against the Philadelphia Eagles, 36 against the Washington Commanders, 24 against Minnesota, and a whopping 45 against the Seattle Seahawks.
However, they were held to only six points against one of the best defenses in the league led by Dan Quinn.
The Lions forced five turnovers on the day. There was a strip sack at the very end by Micah Parsons. Trevon Diggs’ third pick of the year. One was a major forced fumble by DeMarcus Lawrence on Jamaal Charles on the one-yard line. Another was an interception by Lewis.
With just over eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter, and the score still close at 10-6, the cornerback jumped in front of a pass intended for Lions WR Tom Kennedy and went to begin to try and run it back from the Dallas 46-yard line.
Unfortunately for the captain, things seemed to go haywire somewhere between the pick and being tackled to the ground. As his teammates circle him to congratulate him, Lewis stays on his knees for a bit and struggles to get up afterward.
Jourdan Lewis was carted off the field after key interception in Cowboys vs. Lions game
It quickly became apparent that Lewis was dealing with a foot injury. The cornerback struggled to get himself off the field of his own volition and was seen on the sideline attempting to put as little weight as possible onto his injured foot. Two members of the medical staff were holding him up at the sideline.
Shortly after, a cart was brought out for the defensive back and he was taken to the locker room to receive X-rays. While the former third-rounder was being tended to, he was hopefully told that his impressive interception led to an Ezekiel Elliott touchdown for his team.
We do not know if Lewis’s foot is broken at this time, but will update as soon as we get more information.
We hope that it’s good news for one of the key members of Quinn’s secondary. The injury bug bites the Cowboys yet again.
