It’s really impressive how well the Cowboys have been performing on the edge this season. Through five games, they already have 20 sacks and it’s not just the star players such as DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons getting after the quarterback. For Dallas, they have had nine different players record a sack on the season.

So far during his rookie campaign, Sam Williams hasn’t joined that list but he nearly became No. 10 in each of the past two games. Williams, who has six solo tackles on the season, was credited with two quarterback hits as he just missed getting to Carson Wentz in Week 4 and Matthew Stafford in Week 5.

Against the Rams, he did wind up with two tackles, one of which went for a loss, and knocked a pass down as well. He made an impact on the game despite logging just 25 snaps — which was the highest number he’s had so far.

Williams, a second-round pick from Ole Miss, has a sensational first step and his play against the run has been better than expected. It would be great for Dan Quinn to be able to get him more snaps in an attempt at developing him into a major weapon, but it won’t be so easy.

Right now, Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong, and Dante Fowler have all been playing well on the edge. They also bring Parsons up to the line and Chauncey Golston is quietly playing well. Simply put, this position is stacked and it’s hard to get them all on the field. Even so, Williams has done enough to earn more time.
