3. Carson Wentz is trending in the wrong direction

There was a time when Carson Wentz was supposed to be the next big thing. The Philadelphia Eagles moved up in the 2016 NFL Draft to land him at No. 2 overall out of North Dakota State and he had some success early, including a 2017 campaign where he was an MVP favorite.

He then had to watch as his team won a Super Bowl without him following an ACL tear. The Eagles still committed to him, signing him to a massive extension. Then, they moved on after just two more seasons, handing things over to Jalen Hurts.

Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts and was run out of town following one subpar campaign. Now, the Commanders believe he can be the guy to save their franchise, and he had a strong debut with 313 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Jacksonville — although he did throw two picks.

The past two weeks, however, have been much worse. Washington lost to Detroit and Philadelphia and Wentz has been sacked 14 times in those two games — compared to just once in Week 1. Against the Eagles, it was nine times that he went down and he finished with just 211 yards and no touchdowns.

As he did in Indy, Wentz is trending in the wrong direction and the Commanders look to be headed in the same direction they were back when they didn’t have a name, which is nowhere.
