The fact that the Cowboys had to put both James Washington and Michael Gallup on Tuesday’s 53-man roster made it tough for some of the young wide receivers to get a chance. Brandon Smith, Dontario Drummond, and T.J. Vasher were all given the ax.

Vasher had a great camp. His electric one-handed catch while being clearly held by Kelvin Joseph went viral during the team’s time in Oxnard.

Vasher’s 6-foot-6 frame certainly made him a top candidate for the Cowboys. There were multiple times in training camp where he left defenders way back in the dust.

Unfortunately for Vasher, other receivers on the roster were prioritized during preseason games. The 2021 UDFA was targeted just three times in all three preseason games. With KaVontae Turpin’s electricity as a returner and Dennis Houston’s climb, Vasher had very tough competition.

If the Cowboys deicded not to keep James Washington and Michael Gallup on the 53-man roster, Vasher likely would’ve made the cut. Unfortunately, there was a good amount of competition for this receiver.
