Malik Jefferson was a third-round pick for the Cincinnati Bengals back in 2018, but so far, has struggled to find his footing in the NFL. He recorded just 10 tackles as a rookie and to this date, that’s been his career-high.

He’s now on his fifth team in as many years after playing for the Cleveland, Browns in 2019, the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020, and then the Indianapolis Colts last season. For his career, he’s recorded just 16 tackles in 35 games.

Despite the struggles, the former Texas standout came to Dallas ready to make an impact. He did just that as he was making several plays in training camp. In the preseason, he continued to show up on tape, with his speed and willingness to tackle being on display.

The problem is, Dallas is suddenly deep at linebacker with Micah Parsons, Leighton Vander Esch, Anthony Barr, Jabril Cox, Luke Gifford, and Devin Harper all making the cut. It proved to be a numbers game for Jefferson, who now waits for his next shot.

Hopefully, that will continue to be with America’s Team. Jefferson did more than enough to prove he can handle the job and would be a very good depth piece. Having him on the practice squad would mean they could call him up at any time, which would only make them feel more comfortable about this position.
