With the 2022 regular season quickly approaching, every NFL team is trying to figure out what to do with their 53-man rosters. For the Dallas Cowboys, they could find themselves needing to make a few tough decisions.

Overall, their depth chart does have some holes in it that need to be addressed but they’ve still done a good job when it comes to bringing in talent to compete for some of their roster spots. For that reason, they might need to think long and hard about cutting any of the following players who would quickly land with a new team.

3. Dennis Houston, WR

Undrafted out of Western Illinois, Dennis Houston has done a solid job throughout the offseason. He quickly showed the coaching staff he could handle whatever they asked of him and even more importantly, he earned the trust of Dak Prescott.

The Dallas quarterback has gone to Houston quite often throughout training camp with no play being more exciting than the Hail Mary touchdown the two connected on during their joint practice with the Chargers.

In the past couple of seasons, it might have been hard for a player such as Houston to crack the roster for Dallas. They’ve entered the past two campaigns with Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and Cedrick Wilson on the roster. In 2022, only Lamb will be on the field in Week 1 as Gallup is hurt, Cooper is in Cleveland, and Wilson went to Miami.

Throw in the foot fracture suffered by James Washington and Dallas is desperate for playmakers outside of Lamb. That’s why Houston should be retained. He’s also unlikely to make it back for the practice squad after what he’s shown.
