The first two weeks of cuts for the Dallas Cowboys were pretty simple. They waived some understandable names to go from 90 to 85 then 85 to 80. However, this week, the team had to waive or cut a whopping 27 players in order to reveal their first official 53-man roster.

This roster can, and will, change before the Cowboys take on the Bucs next weekend. Players will be moved to the IR and there are some people, like kicker Brett Maher and at least one of the backup QBs, who got waived as a strategic move who will still need a spot on this roster.

There were some players who did really well this offseason who unfortunately didn’t make the final cut. For example, T.J. Vasher, who arguably had one of the best touchdown catches of training camp, was waived. Dallas waived UDFA Boston College center Alec Lindstrom after impressing and hoping to give Tyler Biadasz a run for his money. Veteran tight end Sean McKeon was outplayed by rookie Jake Ferguson and UDFA Peyton Hendershot.

Perhaps one of the biggest upsets was seeing RB Malik Davis let go. It was going to be unrealistic for the Cowboys to carry four RBs into the season with Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, and Rico Dowdle leading the charge, but Davis was stellar during the preseason. Davis and Aaron Shampklin both had bright moments, but neither made the roster.

You can see the list of those waived in the tweet below.

Here are the players who are on the roster:

The Cowboys also made some strategic moves in order to make space for players like James Washington and Tyron Smith who will ultimately end up on the IR. Not only did the Cowboys waive Maher, but they also waived long snapper Jake McQuaide and all three backup quarterback options in the hopes that these people wouldn’t get picked up by other teams.

On a brighter note, four undrafted free agents are present on this first edition of the roster. WR KaVontae Turpin, WR Dennis Houston, TE Peyton Hendershot, and S Markquese Bell all made the cut.

Cowboys football is just 12 days away. Changes will be made, but this should really be the gist of the 53 players moving forward. For now, the biggest concern is creating spots for Rush, Maher, and McQuaide.
