1. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State

During their current training camp, the Cowboys have been tested at wide receiver. They already put themselves in a tough spot when they traded Amari Cooper for a late-round pick and now, they’re struggling with injuries as well.

Not only will Michael Gallup be sidelined for at least Week 1 as he recovers from a torn ACL, but James Washington just fractured his foot. This leaves Dallas with only one wideout that has caught a touchdown in the NFL in CeeDee Lamb.

They can say they’re satisfied all they want but they could be in trouble. And if the position causes their offense to slow down too much, they could look to add a wideout in the opening round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

A name to watch for at the position is Jaxon Smith-Njigba from Ohio State. Smith-Njigba proved to be an elite playmaker by pulling in 95 passes for 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore. He accomplished this even with Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave on the roster.

With each of them in the NFL, Smith-Njigba could be even better in 2022 but that doesn’t mean he won’t be there for Dallas to consider drafting. The junior wideout is a smooth route runner with excellent hands but he’s not expected to blow anyone away with his workouts at the Scouting Combine.

Some teams put too much stock in these workouts, so the Cowboys could see him slide to them, and they shouldn’t hesitate to add him to the team should this happen.
