The Dallas Cowboys hopped on the train from Oxnard and headed to Costa Mesa for their first of two joint practices with the LA Chargers ahead of their preseason matchup on Saturday.

All in all, this practice was far better than their soiree with the Denver Broncos last week. It started off a bit precarious when CeeDee Lamb was seen entering the field in sweatpants. Reporters were saying the WR1 was dealing with a foot injury, which caused major alarm. However, Michael Gehlken later said that injury was “too strong” of a term and nothing structural was wrong.

So, what went well?

For starters, there were absolutely no fights or tussles which is a great sign for a team that has been ridiculed all week for its lack of discipline. Aside from that, both stars and backups had some great moments against the Chargers. Let’s take a look at a few.

The best moments from the Dallas Cowboys’ first joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers

This was arguably the most exciting play of the day. Sixth-year defensive end Tarell Basham had yet another big-time interception in the preseason after getting one in the joint practice with the Broncos off of Russell Wilson last week. This time, he reached up to secure a ball with one hand in what was a very acrobatic play for a 266-pound man.

In a shock to absolutely nobody, Micah Parsons continues to dominate. If the linebacker was allowed to hit the quarterback in this situation, Justin Herbert would’ve been on the floor.

Now, this is the forceful Ezekiel Elliott the Cowboys have been missing. He literally knocks a guy’s helmet off from the brunt of his attack. Hopefully, this is the Zeke we see in 2022.

Another interception from a lesser-known name here. This time from former sixth-round pick safety Israel Mukuamu. The 6-foot-4 defensive back uses his height to reach up and come down with a big grab for the Cowboys.

Once again, Dak Prescott is finding ways to connect with UDFA Dennis Houston. The two certainly seem to have a connection, and Houston showed off his speed after the catch.

It wasn’t all perfect, but I’d consider this a major victory overall after what we saw last week. The Cowboys and Chargers will have another joint practice at 1:15 pm CST tomorrow and they play preseason game number two in LA this Saturday at 9 pm CST.
