Cowboys 53-man roster prediction after preseason Week 1
By Randy Gurzi
Cornerback (6):
Trevon Diggs
Anthony Brown
Jourdan Lewis
Kelvin Joseph
Nahshon Wright
DaRon Bland
After recording 11 picks last year, Trevon Diggs has become a household name. There are those who will say he’s overrated since he surrendered many big plays in 2021 but that happens when a player gambles as he does. Most teams would take that trade-off as long as the turnovers keep happening.
The Cowboys would surely like to see second-year player Kelvin Joseph start next to him but he has yet to show he can handle the job. He struggled against some of the Broncos’ reserves, even giving up a touchdown to Seth Williams.
Nahshon Wright was also beaten in the end zone as the 6-foot-4 cornerback was unable to break up a ball intended for 6-foot-0 Kendall Hinton. Neither will be cut going into year two but it means Anthony Brown will likely remain a starter and Jourdan Lewis will stay in the third spot.
Dallas goes deep at corner as they keep DaRon Bland in this prediction. Bland showed great instinct in his first game and had no problem being physical, finishing with five tackles.
Considering the questions they still have with Wright and Joseph, it would be hard to cut someone with promise, so Bland makes it to the opening day 53-man roster.
