3 Cowboys players to watch in first preseason game against Broncos

The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Denver in Week 1 of the preseason to take on the Broncos. As is often the case, many of their star players are expected to either sit out the entire game or simply play one series before giving way to those fighting for a spot on the team.
Whether that battle is for a starting role or simply as a member of the 53-man roster, these snaps will be huge for players still trying to figure things out in the NFL. For Dallas, here are three guys to keep an eye on in their first action of the new year.

3. Tyler Smith, Guard
Over the past several seasons, the Cowboys have done a great job drafting players – and one reason for that is they don’t typically go for the “splash” pick. For fans, this can feel like a letdown and there wasn’t a lot of excitement when Tyler Smith was announced as their selection in Round 1 this year.
The main complaint with Smith was that he was flagged constantly while at Tulsa and the Cowboys’ offensive line already has some major concerns in this area. The coaching staff believes he can clean this up, and if so, Smith could end up being another future Pro Bowl lineman based on how he’s looked in camp.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, it would be best to see how Smith does against other teams. Should he continue to push defensive tackles around and avoid the penalties, he could be well on his way to a strong start for his career.
