5. Lirim Hajrullahu vs Brett Maher, Kicker
Cowboys fans had such high hopes for UDFA Jonathan Garibay, but after a poor camp and being handily beaten out by Hajrullahu, Dallas had to make a move.
That move was to bring back the kicker cut three years ago, Brett Maher, who’s been bouncing around the NFL since his release from the Cowboys. While this leaves many fans scratching their heads, it seems like the Cowboys are going back to who they know in order to figure out their kicker situation.
Brett Maher is a different kicker than he was his first Cowboys tenure, he said today. He and Lirim Hajrullahu will compete for job, something they did in 2014 on Winnipeg Bombers. Hajrullahu is 20-for-21 the past two practices. https://t.co/I7zagKcNkF

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but if we were to assume who has the advantage, it would be Hajrullahu. Though stranger things have happened when it comes to the Cowboys kickers in the past, it’s possible that neither make the roster and the Cowboys search the waiver wire for Greg Zuerlein’s replacement. In the meantime, we’ll just have to see how these two fair in the preseason. As we learned last season, having a reliable kicker is more important than some may think.
