4 potential Dallas Cowboys roster bubble players with trade value

This Dallas Cowboys front office is always a mixed bag. To the media, the Joneses will say they are content with the players on the current roster. Behind closed doors, they are working the phones and talking to players and agents to see what can be done to better this team.

The recent signing of linebacker Anthony Barr proves that and while they continue to tell media outlets that they are happy with the young talent they have at receiver, we have to assume that vice president of player personnel Will McClay has his eye on receivers who may be on the roster bubble with the intent to finagle a trade when the time is right.

The Cowboys have a few positions with a surplus of talent and we know that not all of them are going to make this roster. There are a few valuable trade pieces for McClay to secure a talented receiver that can come in and help a depleted receiver room. Here are a few potential bubble players Dallas might be able to flip for a receiver before the season kicks off.

1. Trysten Hill, DT

After being taken with the second pick in the 2019 draft after a lot of cheerleading from former defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, Hill hasn’t quite lived up to his draft status. Playing a total of 18 games in three seasons and starting just five games in part due to an ACL injury that put him on IR and a lackluster stat line, Hill’s tenure with the team may be coming to an end.

Part of that is due to the addition of Osa Odighizuwa and his breakout rookie season. Plus, we’ve seen defensive coordinator Dan Quinn uses defensive ends and shift the likes of Chauncey Gholston and DeMarcus Lawrence inside more. These things lead me to believe that Hill is the odd man out on this rebuilt defensive front.

That doesn’t mean he is lacking value though as teams will be intrigued by his ability to get up the field between the tackles. That curiosity could lead a team to propose a trade with the Cowboys for a receiver they aren’t going to keep.
