3 realistic goals for Cowboys LB Micah Parsons this season
1. Win Defensive Player of the Year
After finishing second in the Defensive Player of the Year award votes in 2021, Parsons has his eyes set on the prize this season. Based on the statistical goals on the previous slides, Parsons will have himself in a position to win the prestigious award if he can achieve those goals. He is already getting after his Cowboys teammates in training camp.
The DPOY award is mostly stats based. The player with the best all-around stats usually wins. That is why we saw T.J. Watt bring home the award last year after his 22.5 sack season. For a rookie like Parsons to finish second in DPOY should give him immense confidence heading into this season.
Pass-rushers are usually the favorites to win the award, as eight of the last 10 winners recorded at least 11 sacks. On most betting sites, Parsons has the fourth-best odds to win the award behind the likes of Watt, Aaron Donald, and Myles Garrett. Everything is lining up for the second-year pro to have a huge season. Capping it off with the Defensive Player of the Year award would be icing on the cake.
