With the Dallas Cowboys having off Sunday, Week 1 of 2022 training camp has officially come to a close. The first few days are all about going through the motions and trying to answer questions from the offseason.

While many things have been constant over the years when the Cowboys land in Oxnard, California, a few things turned some heads after just six days on the west coast. Let’s take a look at some of the more surprising moments.

 5. WR T.J. Vasher is making a statement

Fans usually latch on to an underdog during training camp with hopes they make the team. Wide receiver T.J. Vasher was red-shirted in 2021, so this was the first time many Cowboys fans could get a good look at him. After Friday’s practice, it didn’t take long for the undrafted receiver to go viral and show the world what he could do.

Vasher is tabbed with having the catch of training camp so far. The throw from quarterback Will Grier was placed where only Vasher could get a hand on it.

The former Red Raider signed with Dallas after going undrafted last season due to a knee injury he suffered in college. The front office wanted to keep Vasher around without taking up a roster spot, so he was placed on the non-football injury list to start camp in 2021.

With hopes of playing after being designated to return in December, Vasher’s injury kept him from practice. It ultimately held him on the NFI list, officially ending his season.

Flash forward to 2022, and the second-year wideout has undoubtedly surprised the team. Vasher participated in OTA’s and minicamp and showed some promise even before his circus catch. His length and size are something the Cowboys receiver room lacks.

With Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson leaving in the off-season, there is a need on this roster for dynamic players. If Vasher can keep up with his highlight reel, fans should not be surprised to see him on Sundays.
