Dalton Schultz has been catching a lot of flak from Cowboys fans recently because of his and the team’s inability to reach an agreement on an extension before the July 15 deadline. Many believe he is pricing himself higher than what he’s “worth”, but you can’t blame him for trying to secure the bag.
Schultz has been that security blanket for America’s quarterback for the past two seasons and I see him expanding his role to more than that in 2022. With Cooper and Wilson out of the picture, Schultz may see more downfield targets than in the past. He should be a factor in every game, and he will make the Joneses wish they extended him before the season.
The former fourth-rounder could feel threatened by another recent fourth-rounder in Ferguson. Schultz could take this opportunity to really prove his worth and reach the 1,000 receiving yard threshold. If anyone joins Lamb in the 1,000-yard club, I expect that to be the reliable tight end.
