2. Jason Garrett, Former Cowboys Coach

If you listen really closely you can hear the protests outside of AT&T Stadium already…

In all seriousness, this would not be the move I would make. However, if you consider who is running the Cowboys and why they might consider this, I can find a scenario where they do it.

There have been times in sports history when a former coach returns to the team that let him go. It has happened in baseball on a number of occasions and the Raiders have done it twice since 2006 with Art Shell and Jon Gruden.

The issue, or one of the many issues with this move I should say, is just how recently Garrett was let go. The majority of the roster now was here the last time he coached in Dallas.

Now, let’s think about why this could happen. Garrett is more familiar with the players and organization as a whole than anybody out there, he has more HC experience than almost anybody available, and after McCarthy failed to get Dallas over the hump that Garrett also couldn’t, perhaps he was not the biggest problem?

On the flip side, he was a very bad offensive coordinator with the Giants, and he has found a comfortable job in the broadcasting game after years with the stress of coaching. So maybe it is for the best that we all just move on from that era.
