The Dallas Cowboys head into 2022 with a new unquestioned No. 1 wide receiver. That player is 2020 first-round pick, CeeDee Lamb. For the Cowboys’ offense to perform at a top-10 level again next season, they need Lamb to take that next step into elite status.

The 23-year-old receiver has all the makings of one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. All he has been waiting for is his opportunity. For the first two years of his career, he had to contend with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup for targets. Now, with Cooper gone and Gallup out for at least a couple of games, Lamb gets the chance to show what he can do by getting a full dose of targets.

Will he emerge as a star? Can he be a dark horse to lead the league in receiving yards? Let’s look at some more realistic goals for Lamb to reach for in 2022.

3. Four or fewer drops

Throughout Lamb’s first two seasons he has accumulated 16 total drops with eight in each season. That is not something we expected to see from Lamb coming out of college and it’s a fact that Cowboys fans consistently bring up about him. It is fair to assume that in his third season, the drops will be corrected. If he can cut that number in half to four or less, that would be ideal.

The biggest problem with drops is that they are momentum killers. They come during crucial third downs or on deep balls in the end zone. Having sure-handed receivers you can count on during the big moments of a game, can be the difference between a win or loss. I expect Lamb to sure up his drops and make many big plays for the Cowboys next season. He could have had even better stats if he didn’t have those misses.
