It may be a bit too early to be having this conversation, but it’s hard to argue that Jason Witten isn’t one of the most beloved Cowboys of all time. He spent an impressive 16 seasons with Dallas, which is not only an incredibly long career for any football player but also amazing for him to remain with one team for so long. There is no other tight end in league history that played more than Witten’s 271 NFL games.

Witten was not only an 11x Pro Bowler and 2x All-Pro, but he was also an incredible human off the field earning him the 2012 Walter Payton Man of the Year award. He is one of, if not, the best tight ends this franchise has ever had. Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez is the only TE with more receptions and yards at the position. Witten also ended his career fourth on the all-time leading receptions list behind Jerry Rice, Larry Fitzgerald, and Gonzalez.

The former Cowboy is currently the franchise leader in receptions (1,215) and yards (12,977) and is second in touchdown catches (72). Unlike some of the more recent Cowboys tight ends, Witten was known for his impressive blocking abilities as well. He also holds the team record for starts with 245.

Dallas is likely waiting a bit to add him, but we aren’t quite sure what they are waiting for. He will also be a prime Hall of Fame candidate but isn’t eligible until 2026.
