Yet another member of the Dallas Cowboys is facing legal troubles this offseason. The Cowboys have had quite the drama-filled offseason. From Jerry Jones’ paternity lawsuit to Kelvin Joseph’s potential involvement in a murder to the voyeurism scandal with former VP Richard Dalrymple, the team has been in the press a lot in the last few months, and not always for a good reason. This certainly isn’t the type of media coverage the front office is hoping for.

On Monday evening, it was revealed that yet another member of the Cowboys would be facing legal action. This time, new WR1 CeeDee Lamb. Although not nearly as serious as homicide or sexual misconduct, a trading card company has filed a civil lawsuit against the wide receiver. Leaf Trading Cards claims that Lamb did not sign enough items to fulfill a contract the two sides had agreed upon after Lamb signed with the Cowboys back in 2020. Because the receiver failed to autograph all of the cards, the company is seeking damages and attorney fees for a breach of contract.

Brian Gray, the CEO of Leaf, took to Twitter to further explain the situation:

"“As we shared last week, Leaf has filed the first ever lawsuit against an athlete in order to compel the completion of an autograph contract so customers holding redemptions are not forced to take replacements. We hate doing this, but customers need defending here.”"

Details of Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb’s lawsuit from Leaf Trading Cards

According to Sports Illustrated’s Mike Fisher, the lawsuit was filed on May 20 in Denton County, Texas, after the company was unable to fulfill orders from customers who purchased signed cards from Lamb. The company is seeking $100,000 to help with attorney fees and to cover losses due to a lack of trust from its customer base.

Leaf has also asked the county court to serve the 23-year-old with the suit at his home or the Cowboys’ offices. Lamb is set to begin OTAs with the team this week. Although a lack of signing football cards is not the most concerning offense, it’s yet another distraction the team doesn’t need. After the franchise said goodbye to both Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson this offseason, Lamb is set to be the new WR1 in Dallas with Michael Gallup hopefully filling in as WR2 once he is fully recovered from his ACL tear.

The receiver is unlikely to face repercussions or suspension from the league for this situation, so hopefully, he can put this behind him quickly and get his mind and focus back on training camp and football.
