1. McCarthy on Sam Williams

It is very clear that every member of the Cowboys staff and front office was bought in on Sam Williams before the 2022 NFL Draft. Dan Quinn practically fell in love with him on his Pro Day, he received an official pre-draft invite, and he was ranked very highly on the team’s big board.

Williams seemed to bring that intensity to rookie minicamp as well. His new defensive coordinator reiterated how excited he was to have the Ole Miss product on his squad.

McCarthy said that the front office felt that Williams had “first-round attributes” and felt lucky that he was still available when the team picked him in the second round. The head coach also commented on the defensive end’s physical attributes and natural ability:

"“I think we’d all agree Sam Williams is that guy that was born to play professional football. He has the gifts. He has the physical traits. I mean he had two pass rushes today, and I know we were just in helmets, but he was clean in the backfield. He has that kind of ability. He’s in a great place. He’s in an excellent system that he’ll definitely benefit from. I think he will do extremely well early for us.”"

Keep in mind, that these were just the impressions from “rookie orientation.” Imagine how the team will feel about these players when they get more practice and time under their belts.
