When the Dallas Cowboys schedule was released last Thursday, I imagine linebacker Micah Parsons started salivating when he saw their Week 2 matchup. That is because the Cowboys will go up against the defending AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals.

Parsons is a great competitor, so facing one of the best teams in the league should bring out the best in him. But, there are three additional reasons why this matchup is a fun one for the defending Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The first reason is that the Bengals’ offensive line gave up a ton of sacks in 2021. They were third-worst in the league allowing 55 sacks throughout the season. Plus, quarterback Joe Burrow is not very mobile which should help an elite athlete like Parsons get to him quickly.

While Cincinnati did improve their offensive line in free agency, it remains to be seen how they hold up for a full season. That leads me right to the second reason why Parsons should be excited for Week 2.

The return of La’el Collins. Yes, the Cowboys made the difficult decision of releasing Collins during the offseason and he was quickly scooped up by the Bengals. For Parsons, with this being only his second season, this will be the first chance he gets to go head-to-head with a former teammate. In 671 snaps last season, Collins only allowed two sacks. This will be a must-see matchup in the trenches.

Lastly, Parsons has been hungry for the chance to go against Burrow since last season when he said Burrow was not one of his top six quarterbacks,

The Week 2 matchup against the Bengals should be a great game for Cowboys’ Micah Parsons

Could this be bulletin board material for the Bengals and Burrow? Possibly. But, what Parsons said was not inaccurate. When Burrow faced the Chicago Bears last year, he was abysmal. He threw for 207 yards and three interceptions in the game. Burrow also had four games last season with multiple interceptions.

The linebacker also mentioned how he knew the Cowboys played the Bengals in 2022 and did not want to say anything “crazy” about Burrow. All of the lead-up to this game will be very entertaining. These teams meeting in Week 2 can give the winner some early momentum needed to have a successful September.

Overall, taking on one of the best teams in the league that also happens to have a former Cowboy staring at right tackle should be the main reasons why Parsons is excited to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2. It will be a very exciting matchup if the Cowboys can live up to the pressure.
