Eagles secondary signing, rumors should worry Cowboys in 2022

As a Dallas Cowboys site, it absolutely pains us to say that the Philadelphia Eagles are having quite the offseason. A team that gave the Cowboys two easy victories in 2021 has truly revamped its team on both sides of the ball in both free agency and the draft. While the consistency and capability of quarterback Jalen Hurts still remains a mystery, the big changes made around him do cause some concern.

It all started back in March when the Eagles signed former Carolina Panthers edge rusher Haason Reddick. After leading Carolina with 11.0 sacks and 18 QB hits in 2021, Philly signed the free agent to a three-year, $45 million deal. Then came the draft. Howie Roseman made some serious moves.

Over the draft weekend, the Eagles added star Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis, traded for top WR A.J. Brown, and got a steal with Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean. Analysts all over the NFL were singing Philly’s praises after such an impressive draft weekend.

But that wasn’t all. On Wednesday, Philadelphia signed New York Giants cornerback James Bradberry after he allegedly had 11 teams reach out to him. The Eagles now have Bradberry and Darius Slay as their two corners, which is quite the duo.

Sadly, that’s not all. Current Cincinnati free agent safety Jessie Bates seems to be eyeing Philadelphia as well. The safety has not shown up to camp due to contract issues. An Eagles writer on Twitter then discovered that Bates had “liked” a photo on Twitter detailing the team’s “new-look offense.” It could mean absolutely nothing, but in the age of social media, people will always explore every avenue.

It’s certainly hard to admit when your enemy does something well, but it is hard to argue against the fact that the Eagles have made some monumental moves in the past few months. Does this give the birds a chance to take the NFC East crown from the Cowboys? Only time will tell. But, people around the football world had many reactions to the Bradberry news.

The reaction was mixed. Some people were openly ready to admit that this was bad news for the Cowboys. Others tried to prove the Eagles were not going to be that much of a threat

Fort Worth Star-Telegram writer Clarence Hill Jr. took a subtle jab at Jerry Jones. Although David Helman, a writer for the Cowboys, did point out that the QB position still holds a ton of weight, he admitted that the Eagles made great moves. Hill Jr. replied by fantasizing about what it would be like to have a team that actually does everything it needs to do to improve.

Ed Werder, another Cowboys beat reporter, also pointed out Bradberry’s strong suits. Dallas now has to deal with a cornerback who often excels in pass breakups.

NFL’s Ian Rapoport wasn’t shy to point out that the Eagles made some “fire” moves in their defensive back department. Having two incredibly strong corners will be tough for opponents.

Blogging the Boys just expressed sheer anger. Whether it’s that the Cowboys didn’t sign him or that the Eagles added yet another threat, the frustration certainly makes sense.

But the reactions weren’t all negative. Some came to the rescue to reassure fans. In this tweet, you can see that Anthony Brown was statistically a better cornerback in 2021 than Bradberry in several categories. Beating out another player in yards allowed, touchdowns allowed, PFF grade, and more is pretty impressive.

Perhaps the most reassuring reaction to the Bradberry signing was this video of CeeDee Lamb absolutely burning Bradberry on a beautiful touchdown. If Gallup and Lamb can continue to do things like that, the new Eagle won’t be much of a threat.
