Cowboys schedule gifts fans a rivalry game on Christmas Eve
The Dallas Cowboys schedule is officially out and there are some great games to look forward to on the schedule. The Cowboys take on two of the top teams in the NFL when they face the Bucs and Bengals in Weeks 1 and 2. Dallas will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. Mike McCarthy heads back to Green Bay for the first time in four years in Week 10.
But, as always, the Cowboys will play their NFC East rivals two times this year. One of those bitter rivalry matchups will come during “the most wonderful time of the year.” In 2022, the Cowboys are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles at home on Christmas Eve at 3:25 pm ET on FOX. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer was the first to report the game. What better early Christmas gift from Santa than a rivalry game?
Last year, the Cowboys faced the Eagles in Week 18 of the season and it wasn’t quite the intense matchup everyone wanted it to be. Both teams had already clinched a playoff spot, a lot of Eagles players were out with COVID, and backups played for most of the game. However, that was the game where Dak Prescott broke Tony Romo’s franchise record by throwing for 37 touchdowns in a single season.
This year’s second matchup between the two teams (the first will be in Week 6) will be much different. In Week 16, there are likely to be playoff implications and the NFC East crown will be on the line. Last year, the Cowboys scored a combined 92 points against Philly. But, Dallas isn’t going to see the same beaten-up Philly team they saw in 2021. With the additions of A.J. Brown, Jordan Davis, Keanu Neal, and more, the Eagles aren’t going down as easily this year.
NFL schedule gifts Cowboys and Eagles fans a rivalry game on Christmas Eve
The Dallas Cowboys have a good amount of Christmas game history. Last year, Dallas played Washington the day after Christmas and beat the Commanders in dominating fashion with a 56-14 victory. Let’s hope this Christmas Eve game brings another commanding win as well.
The ghost of Christmas (Eve) past wasn’t been very good to the Cowboys. The last time Dallas played on Christmas Eve was in 2017. In what should’ve been an exciting game agaisnt the Seattle Seahawks after Ezekiel Elliott’s return from suspension, Dallas ended up essentially not showing up for the game. They started drinking their eggnog a bit too early. Dan Bailey, the kicker at the time, was the only point scorer for America’s Team in a disappointing 21-12 loss to Seattle.
This game will determine which team has a truly Merry Christmas. We are sure that rivalry pranks and typical banter between Eagles and Cowboys fans will fill the week with “cheer.” Nothing says the magic of the holidays like a Cowboys win over their biggest rival. It’ll certainly be on our wish lisit for Santa come December.
