Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 58. 829. RB. Alabama Crimson Tide. JahmyrGibbs. player

Round 2, Pick 58: RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama

After the 2022 season, the Cowboys officially have a way to get themselves out of the Ezekiel Elliott contract. If designated as a post-June 1st cut, the team will only take on a $5.82 million cap hit, which would save the team around $11 million.

Now obviously, this is very dependent on a couple of things, including how Elliott plays this year. His health is also a factor as well as his backup’s performance. RB2 Tony Pollard played very well given his touches last season, which could be even more of a reason to cut ties with Zeke after the season. However, Pollard’s contract is also set to end after this upcoming season.

Whether one, both, or neither stay, it would influence this draft pick. In this case, we will play it safe and say one stays. In the second round, America’s Team takes running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

Gibbs is coming off of a solid second season at Georgia Tech, racking up over 1,200 scrimmage yards and six touchdowns. He has since transferred to Alabama where he is expected to start and even make a run for the Heisman Trophy.

The best way to describe Gibbs is that he’s an all-purpose back. He is quick on the ground and shows good vision and burst. He can make you pay in the passing game as well. The soon-to-be Alabama player graded very well according to PFF, finishing second for running backs in receiving (91.5) and also had a great run grade (86.2).
