Meeting Cowboys No. 88 pick Jalen Tolbert: Strengths, Weaknesses, Fit
Jalen Tolbert’s Weaknesses
Competition: This is probably the biggest thing fans can bring up when it comes to Tolbert. He played in the Sun Belt Conference against competition that is not on par with other conferences such as the SEC or Big 10. Regardless, he still showed out against bigger opponents such as Tennessee last season. However, there is still cause for concern as most seasons, he played teams like Alcorn State and Troy.
Concentration Drops: While this isn’t a knock on his hands, it is more so just boneheaded drops. He can be a bit susceptible to turning his head upfield too early instead of watching the ball into his hands. This should be easier to work on than other things, but it’s worth noting.
Route Running: By no means is Tolbert a bad route runner, but there are some things to work on. His deep-route running is most likely what needs a bit of work, it’s just a matter of breaking out of double moves and keeping consistent in shifting his body weight when breaking inside. This obviously isn’t a huge issue due to his success with deep plays, but if he can shore those up, that can be extremely dangerous for defenses.
