Jalen Tolbert’s Cowboys Roster Fit

Tolbert may have a bigger role coming than most third-round picks due coming out of their first training camp. With Michael Gallup expected to return to the field after the first six weeks of the season, the Alabama native may see action as a WR3 or even a WR2 early on, depending on how the depth chart shakes up during the pre-season.

The current Cowboys receiver room that is expected to be available in Week 1 consists of Lamb, Tolbert, James Washington, Noah Brown, and Simi Fehoko. That’s not necessarily ideal to work with, so the third-round pick could see a lot of action early on.

It seems clear that all Tolbert will need to do is beat out Brown and Fehoko, and worst case, he will split with Brown. The first few weeks of the season are shaping up to almost be an audition for the WR3 spot for when Gallup returns. Tolbert could be in line for some big-time reps if things play out well for the rookie.
