Defensive Depth Chart (25 Players)

Defensive End: DeMarcus Lawrence, Dante Fowler Jr., Dorance Armstrong, Chauncy Phillips, Sam Williams

The loss of Randy Gregory hurt this team, but the front office has done a nice job of filling that hole with veterans they know and their defensive coordinator knows very well. They then went out and drafted one of the more athletic defensive ends in this year’s draft. The Cowboys’ pass rush should be just fine in 2022.

Defensive Tackles: Quinton Bohanna, Osa Odighizuwa, John Ridgeway, Neville Gallimore, Trysten Hill

The team’s desire to beef up the middle of the line continued after last year’s selection of Bohanna. The Cowboys took John Ridgeway in the draft as a sign they wanted to continue this process. The addition of Ridgeway will make current defensive tackle Carlos Watkins expendable when it’s time to trim the roster.

Linebackers: Micah Parsons, Leighton Vander Esch, Jabril Cox, Luke Gifford, Devin Harper

No surprises here for the Cowboys at linebacker, though an injury could open the door a bit for Aaron Hansford (an undrafted free agent) to sneak in and take a roster spot from Gifford or Harper if they go down. The biggest conversation here will be if Cox can take the starting role next to Parsons away from Vander Esch. My money right now says that he will.

Cornerbacks: Trevon Diggs, Kelvin Joseph, Anthony Brown, Jourdan Lewis, Nahshon Wright, DaRon Bland

Depending on how things go for Joseph off the football field, he should be able to come in and take the starting role opposite Diggs to start the season. That move would then move Brown back to his more natural position as the slot cornerback where he’s had the most success in his career. Lewis would be the primary backup along with Wright, and Bland would probably be a core special teamer.

Safeties: Malik Hooker, Jayron Kearse, Israel Mukuamu, Donovan Wilson

Hooker and Kearse will be your day one starters with Mukuamu and Wilson serving as their backups at free and strong safety respectively. The only shakeup that could happen here is if somehow, undrafted free agent Markquese Bell is able to make a big enough impression on the defensive coaching staff to have them move on from either Mukuamu or Wilson.
