Round 3, Pick 88: Wan’Dale Robinson, WR, Kentucky

In a world where the Cowboys wait on drafting a receiver, getting Kentucky’s Wan’Dale Robinson in the third round is just about the best-case scenario.

He is a small receiver, at just 5-9 and 178 pounds. Robinson will likely start his career as a slot receiver and then move into a bigger role as he adds muscle and NFL experience. This pick gives the Cowboys an explosive weapon out of the slot and a true starter in the wide receiver room, which could really help since Michael Gallup is still recovering from his ACL tear.

Robinson has abilities at the receiver position that the Cowboys simply lack right now. He can showcase those on the field right away if you put the ball in his hands. We know how guys with similar builds and playstyles have worked out in recent years. In fact, a certain former Chiefs receiver just got $72M guaranteed from the Dolphins.

This is not to say Robinson will end up like Tyreek Hill, but it is to say that guys with his skill set often succeed in the league especially if the offensive coordinator can create plays for him. Dallas can take some pressure off CeeDee Lamb by using Robinson in the short game, allowing Lamb to torch secondaries over the top.

The Wildcat’s size and subsequent durability will be a question for some, but currently in the NFL, teams are starting to see smaller builds as an asset at the receiver position.
