We’ve seen mock drafts mine left and right, mine included. Some have the Dallas Cowboys moving up. Some have them moving down. Some have them sticking with their exact picks. I’m firmly in the group of moving down grabbing an extra pick or two and taking the best player given the depth of talent in this draft.

However, there are some situations where if a certain player starts to fall down the board, wise moves could be made to secure that name. As long as the Cowboys can still get a few more quality players later in the draft, trading up could certainly be a value. Jerry Jones certainly reiterated that idea in a press conference with Cowboys reporters on Tuesday afternoon.

We certainly know Jerry likes to make a splash. Although there aren’t many players I believe Dallas should strongly consider moving up for, there are a few names that could cause them to give up a pick or picks in order to draft their impact player in 2022.

1. Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State

Height: 6’4″   Weight: 307lbs

Career Stats: 25 games played, 22 career starts

When you see Charles Cross play on the field, you’ll notice that he’s one of the more mobile and athletic tackles in this draft. He reminds many of a young Tyron Smith when he entered the league. We know that when it comes to general managers around the league, most are on the road gathering information from scouts and working on who they want to take in the upcoming draft.

That isn’t the case in Dallas as their general manager is also the owner and doesn’t make those trips or really meet with the scouts until they start to prepare for the draft at the end of the season. So that comparison to Smith is what will most likely entice Cowboys owner Jerry Jones into deciding to move up in order to get his next left tackle of the future.

Having Cross learn from Smith before taking over would give America’s Team the foundation to build towards their offensive line of the future. Cross may also be able to play left guard before eventually taking over at left tackle.
