3. Zion Johnson, Left Guard, Boston College

Up next is Senior Bowl star and one of the top two offensive guards in the draft, Zion Johnson from Boston College. Johnson came onto the scene throughout the pre-draft process and cemented himself as a first-round pick.

The Boston College alum’s best traits are his size, strength, and football IQ. He will immediately help the Cowboys’ run game and should provide stability on the offensive line. Johnson can also be used in a multitude of positions. He was named first-team All-American this past season after starting 11 games at left guard and one at tackle.

His size and strength even lead some to believe he could play center if need be, which he did a little bit of at the Senior Bowl. One fact that is very impressive about Johnson is that he was only flagged once this past season. That is exactly what the Cowboys are looking for in replacement of Connor Williams who was one of the most penalized players in the NFL in 2021.

Overall, Johnson is a great athlete and a day one starter. While offensive guards are never flashy picks, they are valuable, and investing in Johnson could help return the Cowboys’ offense line to elite status.
