Dallas Cowboys rookie linebacker Micah Parsons is good at many things. He’s obviously an excellent football player. We’ve also found out that he’s a great bowler and wrestler. Apparently knowing about the ceremonial puck drop at a hockey game isn’t one of the things he’s great at.

In just about a year’s time, the Penn State sensation has become a celebrity and favorite amongst the football world. So much so, that he was invited back home to Pennsylvania this past weekend to take part in some special events in his hometown. First, he attended the Penn State spring football game. All eyes were on the Defensive Rookie of the Year as he headed back to his alma mater. Then, on Sunday, the Cowboys’ LB headed to Hershey, PA, to do the puck drop at a Hershey Bears game. The Bears are an American Hockey League affiliate team of the NHL’s Washington Capitals whose home arena is just a few miles from Parsons’ hometown of Harrisburg.

Apparently, no one gave the 22-year-old instructions about how a puck drop works. Like a ceremonial first pitch (which Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence did recently), the puck drop is more about the photo moment than the act itself. Before the game starts, typically a celebrity, hometown hero, or someone relevant to the game will stand in between the team captains, pose for a photo, and then drop the puck onto the ice. Everyone shakes hands and then the game begins shortly after. It’s not part of the official game or anything.

Parsons gets introduced and walks down the set carpet to center ice as the players tap their sticks for him. The Cowboys player is clearly being spotlighted and the arena is otherwise in the dark. Instead of waiting for the captains to come to him, the lights to go up, and the photo to be taken, Parsons just drops the puck in the dark. He looks around confused wondering what he’s done wrong. The Bears captain does him a favor and picks the puck up and hands it back to him to try again. The team’s Twitter account posted the video with a funny caption.

This type of deer in headlights looks is usually what happens to the quarterbacks and offensive opponents that Parsons lines up against. It truly may be the first time fans have seen confusion on his face. The video got quite the reaction on social media. Teammate Simi Fehoko poked fun at the moment and fellow NFL star Saquon Barkley called him “a fool.”

Evidently, Parsons plans to clean up another “mistake” on Tuesday. After getting drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the football player was given a key to the city. According to a collegiate newspaper, he lost the first one, despite the fact that Parsons denies it. The city mayor hilariously told the newspaper that this key will be on a larger plaque “in the hopes that [Micah] doesn’t lose this one.”

Thank goodness he’s great at football and has no lack of self-confidence. He seems to be shaking off the hilarious situation well.
