Fifth Round – Cornerback / Defensive Tackle / Receiver / Linebacker

This is the round where the Cowboys, if they don’t trade at all, are able to clean up, fill holes, and add depth on both sides of the football. With their first fifth-round pick, I’d like them to add a run-stuffing defensive tackle. This team has been in need of a true run stopper for some time now and this is the prime spot to take one.

Next on this list would be cornerback. With possible legal problems surrounding Kelvin Joseph, getting a good backup or developmental cornerback that can come in on special teams and play in a pinch if injuries occur is a great idea.

Depth could certainly be added to the linebacker position, especially with the decline of Vander Esch. If the Cowboys don’t pick one earlier in the draft, they can take one around the fifth round in order to get new, young talent in the corps.

Lastly, the chance to take another wide receiver in the fifth round is too good to pass up. The Cowboys will be able to find another receiver that can push veteran Noah Brown for a roster spot.

Next best option if wiped out: Offensive Line (Center)

Reason: If the team has questions about Tyler Biadasz then makes sense to take a center here to compete with Biadasz and possibly take over.
