There are a lot of draft speculation and smokescreens starting to emerge around the Dallas Cowboys and what their plans are going into the 2022 NFL Draft. We’ll never know for certain what their plans are until that moment, but there’s one thing we should be able to figure out, and that is what their needs are heading into the draft. Unfortunately, the Cowboys have a lot of positional holes to fill this offseason. Because of that, the importance of each draft pick is crucial.

In this article, instead of doing mock draft type picks, we will suggest what position the Cowboys should pick with each of their available selections and give a couple of options for each one as well. We will go round by round identifying the best positional options for the Cowboys without any trades involved. So let’s go!

First Round – Offensive Line (Guard)

This is probably the most important and most requested move Dallas needs to make in the first round. After the departure of Connor Williams this offseason and the failed trial with Connor McGovern at left guard in 2021, this team needs to beef up that interior left side of the line. It was the biggest issue last season, and so far, this team has yet to address it in the offseason. This draft has some quality guards in it but none as good as the top tier that can only be found in the first round.

Taking players like Zion Johnson or Kenyon Green would immediately boost this offensive unit in two ways. First and foremost, it would help with protecting quarterback Dak Prescott in the passing game. It would also give the running game some more juice upfront to make an impact on the game. This should be the Cowboys’ first need to address in order to make this team better and there is no reason to go in any other direction unless a top 10 draft pick somehow free falls on Day 1.

Next best option if wiped out: Offensive Line (Left Tackle)

Reason: Finding a replacement that can take over for Tyron Smith in the future.
