The 2022 NFL Draft is right around the corner and teams are building their draft boards, including the Dallas Cowboys. We’ve been so focused on what the Cowboys are doing, who’s on their visit list, and if they’ll trade, that we’ve lost sight of what the rest of the NFC East is doing and who they are looking at.

In 2022, this division will be a lot closer than people want to believe, and it has not had a back-to-back division winner since 2004 when the Philadelphia Eagles did it. All three of the Cowboys’ NFC East opponents have important first-round picks. These potential starting NFL players could be breakout stars who get in Dallas’s way of winning the division once again.

The Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants all have very different needs. Let’s take a look at three picks that the Cowboys’ rivals could make that could pose trouble for the next season. We will make one selection for each team.

1. New York Giants pick OT Charles Cross

First-round picks: 5th and 7th

Primary team needs:  OT, Edge, S

The Pick: Charles Cross, Offensive Tackle – Mississippi State

The Reason: Possible future Pro Bowl left tackle

Ever since their last Super Bowl victory, it seems like the New York Giants’ offensive line has been one of their biggest issues each season. So with two first-round picks in the top ten of this year’s draft, the Giants are in a prime position to draft two players that could be a thorn in the Dallas Cowboys’ side for years to come.

In this instance, though, we are going to see who they could take that could be a worst-case scenario for Dallas. That player is Charles Cross, a young and talented offensive left tackle that has drawn comparisons to the Cowboys’ own Tyron Smith.

Cross would be entering the league at the same age Smith did and his game is very similar. He’s athletic with a great bend, long arms, and his pass dropbacks look effortless. That spells trouble for America’s Team in the long run as Cross could end up having a career just like Smith solidifying that left tackle position. The Giants’ new front office has a chance to show they are doing what is best for their team with this pick.
