With the 129th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select…

Jelani Woods, Tight End – Virginia

Height: 6’7″ Weight: 252lbs

Career Stats: 75 receptions, 959 yards receiving, 12.8 yards per catch, 12 total touchdowns

It doesn’t seem likely that Dallas views Dalton Schultz as the future of the tight end position for them since they have yet to get a deal done and get him off the franchise tag. To me, this means the Cowboys are going to be looking for a tight end that they do see as the future for them. A player who can be a reliable pass catcher for Prescott like Schultz, but can also run block (something Schultz still has issues doing).

With his massive size and speed, Woods would be a matchup problem in the red zone and down the seam for defenses. He would also be a more reliable run blocker. That’s the one thing this team has really missed since Jason Witten left. Woods could possibly come in and give them that element at the position back while still being productive in the passing game.

Reason for the Pick: The team needs to find a tight end that isn’t going to be a liability in the running game and a weapon in the passing game. A player of Woods’s size will make it easier for both phases of the offense and make him an immediate mismatch in the red zone, hopefully helping to fix their issues there as well.

Trade Alert!

The Dallas Cowboys have traded their 176th (5th) and 178th (5th) picks to the Kansas City Chiefs for their 135th (4th) pick.

Cowboys Pick Value: 176th Pick  19 points + 178th Pick 18 points = 37 points

Chiefs Picks Value: 135th Pick = 38 points

With the 129th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select…

Isaiah Spiller, Running Back, Texas A&M

Height: 6’0″ Weight: 217lbs

Career Stats: 541 attempts, 2993 rushing yards, 5.5 yards per attempt, 74 receptions, 585 yards receiving, 7.9 yards per catch, 26 total touchdowns (25 rushing, 1 receiving)

The Cowboys have a bad contract situation with running back Ezekiel Elliott. Couple that with the health issues Elliott has been dealing with over the last few seasons and it makes you wonder if Dallas will look for his replacement soon, especially with running back Tony Pollard in the final year of his contract. Spiller could be a running back the team uses to protect themselves from another Elliott injury and could start to develop his skills if the team decides to move on from Elliott. He’s a patient runner with a nice burst and vision. The former Aggie would be a nice starter in the NFL if not a backup for Pollard.

Reason for the Pick: The Cowboys need to get out from under this bad Elliott contract either this season or next season. Spiller would give them a nice player who can come in and work on his pass blocking. Once he’s ready, he can make it easier for the team to trade or release Elliott and continue to work on their cap for the future.
