Dallas Cowboys’ Prospect Spotlight: WR Chris Olave
Chris Olave’s Weaknesses
WR Room: At OSU, Olave and the rest of the receiver room were able to take advantage of each other’s talent. While this is more of an undetermined factor rather than a weakness, it’s still a question as to whether Olave can be a No. 1 receiver. In college, he was surrounded by so many other talented players at his position who received more attention than him. If the Cowboys are looking for their WR1, it could be a problem. But he could certainly still be a starter.
Inexperience vs. Press: If there’s one thing about the Big Ten most people know, it’s that it is that B1G teams heavily play zone coverage. The NFL plays a lot more man-to-man than the Big Ten does so its cause for concern as to how Olave, as well as other Big Ten receivers, can adapt. His play strength could use some polishing as well to win those battles at the line of scrimmage.
Blocking: This is pretty nitpicky, but it is still a part of a receiver’s job. A nice way of putting it is if a defense is expecting a run play, teams will likely stack up the defense opposite of Olave because the Cowboys wouldn’t be able to rely on him being a playside run blocker. The fact that this is a top-three weakness shows how hard it is to find a weakness in his game.
