3 first-round edge rushers the Cowboys could target in the NFL Draft
1. George Karlaftis, Purdue
Height: 6’4″ Weight: 275lbs
Career Stats: 97 total tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 6 passes defended
Karlaftis has been linked to the Cowboys in a few pre-draft mocks. He’s a great player and has been incredibly consistent throughout his college career. The reason he could fall is because of how some teams look at pass rusher size. Some may feel Karlaftis needs to be a bit taller. However, size has never been a factor for Karlaftis who is a high-effort pass rusher that has a nice assortment of pass rush moves to go with good power in his game. One factor about Karlaftis is that he projects as more of a left defensive end, and the Cowboys already have DeMarcus Lawrence there on a guaranteed contract.
This player is a possibility for the Cowboys, and if taken, Quinn must already have a plan to get him on the field immediately.
The reality is that the Cowboys need offensive line help more than they need DE help (although both are needs). However, with the top offensive line talent likely to go early in the draft, there is certainly a chance that they may end up taking a defensive player who ends up falling further than he should. These three men certainly fall under that category.
