1. Calvin Austin III, Memphis

The Cowboys need to get more explosive on offense, and Calvin Austin II will bring elements that Dallas has not seen in a long-time. Speed, explosiveness, and dynamic playmaker are all great terms to describe the former Memphis Tiger.

The one main knock against Austin is that he is small. He stands at 5-8 and weighs 173 pounds. Players of that size usually have a hard time creating separation against bigger cornerbacks. But, with his speed, getting open should not be too much of an issue.

At the NFL Combine, Austin posted elite scores in the 40-yard dash (4.32 seconds) and broad jump (11’3″) According to NFL.com, that broad jump score made Austin the shortest player to broad jump 11 feet. But, football was not the only way he showed off his athleticism. He was also part of Memphis’ 4×100 meter relay team in track and field.

His senior year stats include 74 catches for 1,149 yards and eight touchdowns. He was also elite after the catch, averaging 7.2 yards after reception.

America’s Team needs to add someone who can take the top off the defense, and if they do not address wide receivers in the first two rounds, Austin would be a great option in the third. CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and Calvin Austin are a group of receivers that can cause problems for opposing defenses. The Cowboys should consider themselves lucky that this draft class is so stacked with receivers. There is plenty of talent that will still be on the board after the first round. That doesn’t happen every year.
