2. The Philadelphia Eagles Signing Zach Pascal

Like the Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles have several positional needs to upgrade and fill this offseason. Wide receiver is absolutely one. But, Zach Pascal (of all the options out there) seems to make little-to-no sense aside from the fact that he’s a former player of head coach Nick Sirianni.

Pascal is not a good wide receiver. He is probably the worst option the Eagles had. In fact, Pascal has a worse PFF grade (52.7 – yikes) than Eagles receivers Jalen Reagor (56.2) and
J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (53.0). Remember, the whole reason that Philly needs WR help is that Reagor and Arcega-Whiteside are both not good. In fact, Pascal and Reagor were the bottom two receivers in PFF’s “yard per route run” metric in 2021 out of all 94 qualifying players.

Wouldn’t the Colts letting Pascal walk despite their need at wide receiver be a big red flag from the start?

Obviously, Pascal wasn’t the Eagles’ first choice. They tried their hands at Christian Kirk, Allen Robinson, and Calvin Ridley, but somehow ended up with the Colt. It’s understandable that players aren’t enthused with the idea of playing for Jalen Hurts. However, is signing a guy just because he had a prior relationship with your head coach a good enough reason to make the move? They could’ve waited to get a receiver in the draft and spent the money on one of their defensive needs.

Pascal’s signing joins other questionable Philly decisions such as the reacquisition of Derek Barnett and the cutting then re-signing of Fletcher Cox who is past his prime.
