After losing edge rusher Randy Gregory to the Denver Broncos, the Dallas Cowboys have a big gap to fill at defensive end. In case you missed it, the Cowboys organization reported that they would be signing Gregory to a five-year, $70 million deal. Just 90 minutes later, Gregory decided he was going to the Broncos instead on the same deal.

According to Cowboys reporter Clarence Hill Jr., the issue was with specific language Dallas wanted in the contract. The tinkering of words made Gregory bolt for the Broncos. The language, however, is present on every single Cowboys contract. The terms just happen to be an issue for Gregory and his past. The clause is that “a player could lose bonuses or guarantees if a player is fined or suspended.” Given Gregory’s long suspension history, that apparently didn’t sit well with him. But those words were also in Michael Gallup’s and DeMarcus Lawrence’s contacts. They were not specific to Gregory.

So… now what? Well, according to NFL Media’s Cowboys reporter Jane Slater, Dallas is trying to pursue Super Bowl Champion Von Miller. Slater mentioned that there “is a very strong interest” on Miller’s side as he has a home in Dallas. While the loss of Gregory was embarrassing, you have to imagine that if Jerry Jones can pull off this free agency sign, Cowboys Nation will be thrilled. Miller is an 8x Pro Bowler, 3x All-Pro, 2x Super Bowl Champion, and a previous Super Bowl MVP.

After reports that Cowboys are pursuing Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware and Micah Parsons are trying to recruit him

Current and former Cowboys players are all on board with this idea. First, Micah Parsons took to Twitter to try and get defenders to join the team. The rookie linebacker simply tagged Miller and Bobby Wagner and put three sets of eyeball emojis. That didn’t get a response from either player yet, but something else did.

Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware made an Instagram video that was a not-so-subtle recruitment attempt for Miller. Ware acknowledged that so many big moves are happening around the NFL. He mentioned Russell Wilson and Randy Gregory going to Denver. He paused and said, “there’s a missing spot in Dallas.” Then, he admitted that he just talked to Miller. He continued, “Micah Parsons. DeMarcus Lawrence. And Von Miller. Hmm. Sounds good to me?!” Thank you for this video, DeMarcus!

This got a response from Miller. The Ram responded to the video with eyeball emojis. Ware responded to that saying, “Just saying. Maybe I join to mentor the guys this year.” So, what I am gathering is that the 9x Pro Bowler could be a better recruiter than the front office? They should send Ware a fruit basket if a deal happens.

Parsons also shared the video to his own Instagram story with none other than a bunch of eyeball emojis. Those seem to be the way of communicating these days. Anyway… do we trust the Cowboys to do the right thing at this point? Not sure. But if they can make this happen, it would almost entirely erase the huge gaffe from Tuesday morning.
