The offseason is in full swing. Franchise tags are set, the NFL Combine is complete, and teams around the NFL are starting to make cuts to clear cap space. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Just because a team cuts a player doesn’t mean the player isn’t worthy of being signed. And luckily for the Dallas Cowboys, players who get released can usually come at a lower price.

With Dallas’s salary cap situation, the reality is that they may have to fill some positional needs with bargain players. Currently, the Cowboys have gaps to fill on the offensive line, defensive line, and at linebacker (among other things). There are certainly players around the league who have been cut recently who can fill those needs. Former Cowboy and recently cut Kansas City Chief Anthony Hitchens has already suggested wanting to return to Dallas.

Let’s see who else could be a solid pickup for the Cowboys…

3. Jordan Hicks, LB

Jordan Hicks is an excellent linebacker who often flies under the radar in a league full of many talented defenders. After playing collegiate football for the Texas Longhorns, he played his first four years of pro football with the Eagles and then moved to the Cardinals. He is a veteran with plenty of experience and a Super Bowl ring. In the 2021 season, Hicks collected 116 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and 4.0 sacks.

Another important note about the former Cardinal is his durability. Despite the fact that Hicks is turning 30 years old before the start of the 2022 NFL season, the linebacker has missed just one game in his last three years in the league. That consistency is a huge plus for Hicks. Playing for the Cowboys would give Hicks the opportunity to return to the Lone Star State and be a veteran starting linebacker alongside Micah Parsons.

The move saves Arizona $6.5 million towards their salary cap but will also cost them $3 million in dead money. With the Cardinals, Hicks had over 100 tackles in all three seasons. Hicks and Arizona initially had some beef ahead of the 2021 season when the team chose draftee Zaven Collins to start over Hicks. The veteran linebacker eventually earned his spot back and proved his worth. Now, he will get the chance to play for another squad.
