How Cowboys can prioritize efficient Michael Gallup deal
Cowboys prioritizing Michael Gallup is not only the correct move but the smart move
Cowboys wideout Michael Gallup is set to hit the open market in March. He is also coming off a torn ACL this past season. While he will draw interest from other teams, the Cowboys have reportedly listed him as a “priority” to maintain this offseason. That’s not only the correct thing to do, but it’s also smart.
Listen, you know he’s coming off an injury. But, that may be a good reason to try and strike a deal. Gallup himself told Heavy.com that he thinks “somebody could give [him] a long-term deal” if he had to prove he was worth it, he could do it. Well, why not meet him in the middle so both parties can have the best of both worlds?
Sign Gallup to a multi-year deal, but one that won’t be top-end due to his injury status. The structure might be wacky, but that is a benefit to both parties. Jerry Jones could backload the deal, incentivize the deal for health, snaps, and/or production, or structure it in a way to get out from under it easily without much damage to the cap if he can’t ever get back to being him. However, you have to make Gallup an offer that he can’t refuse.
That might be the only catch.
