3 tight ends the Cowboys should target in the 2022 NFL Draft
With the NFL combine beginning this week, the Dallas Cowboys‘ front office should have their eyes on a wide variety of players in Indianapolis. But, for this particular article, we will focus on the tight ends.
The Cowboys are set to lose Dalton Schultz in free agency after his breakout season in 2021 and now they must look to the draft for a replacement. Luckily, this draft class has a decent crop of tight ends that would fit nicely in Dallas.
I would not consider a tight end for the Cowboys until at least the third round. So, with that being said, here are three tight ends the Cowboys should target in the NFL draft.

3. Charlie Kolar, Iowa State
The Iowa State senior stands at 6-6 and 260 pounds, which is a great size for a tight end in the league. He measures comparatively to Rob Gronkowski, but he is nowhere near the blocker (or player) of Gronkowski, despite his size.
This past season, Kolar had 62 receptions for 756 yards and six touchdowns. He has had good production throughout his college career despite not playing with great quarterbacks. He is not very agile or quick, but he finds ways to get open and make plays.
Kolar can box out smaller defenders and that helps make him a great Red Zone threat. Also, and most importantly, Kolar has really good hands. You should not have to worry about him dropping passes, a key attribute in any receiving tight end.
Ultimately, Kolar should improve as a blocker with some NFL coaching and his receiving ability will be the reason he makes a big impact in the NFL. He is currently ranked 186th on Pro Football Focus’s big board, which is a lot lower than other sites. But if the Cowboys can get Kolar on day three, I would consider that a steal.
