Cowboys fans will not like these 3 PFF free agency predictions
1. Michael Gallup, WR
Michael Gallup has landed himself in a sticky situation this offseason. He enters free agency amidst some of the best wide receivers in the league. Gallup joins names like Davante Adams, Chris Godwin, Allen Robinson, and Mike Williams. While they may have him beat in raw talent, their price tags are incredibly high. Teams who can’t afford to shell out huge numbers for those guys will be looking to receivers just under their level like Gallup.
The Cowboys’ hope in keeping Gallup was that he found himself injured far too often this year, most recently ending his season with an ACL tear in Week 17. Dallas likely hoped that the surgery and recovery may keep other teams away from Gallup. But news that broke about the receiver’s timetable did not help Dallas. Doug Kyed reported that despite the fact that Gallup didn’t undergo surgery until Feb. 10, the Cowboy is reported to be 100% by August.
While this timeline seems too good to be true and it’s unknown if the source is a medical professional, this news only helps Gallup get a large paycheck for his next contract. Despite his injuries, the wide receiver still remains one of the best options in free agency. PFF says Gallup will end up with the Detroit Lions.
Gallup is one of three wide receivers (Godwin and Odell Beckham Jr.) who will enter free agency after an ACL tear. PFF thinks that in order for a team to spend money on one of those guys, they have to expect them to have a somewhat bumpy year. There’s no way Detroit is going to go from 2-15 to the Super Bowl. So, using their available $20 million to get a guy like Gallup who they don’t need to have an all-star year could be a smart move for them.
The Lions scored big time with rookie receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Adding Gallup to the mix could potentially give quarterback Jared Goff more options and help Detroit have a better year in 2022. PFF thinks the Lions will offer Gallup a two-year, $25 million contract.
Losing one of these players would suck, but losing all three players would be heartbreaking for the Cowboys roster. Of course, all of this is just one website’s opinion, but it does paint a scary picture for Dallas. Way to take the wind out of our sails, PFF.
