The official 2022 NFL Combine invites have been released and the Dallas Cowboys and the rest of the league are ready to get to know and see how these players look before the draft. It can’t be overstated how important this draft will be towards to Cowboys’ future with a large number of their roster becoming free agents this offseason.

The Cowboys are going to have to do their best to balance costs while finding players that fit what they want to execute on offense and defense. Jerry Jones got a glimpse at some of the NCAA’s best talent at the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Alabama. The front office knows that the draft is the best way to get cheap, promising talent.

As they gear up for the 2022 season, we have to wonder whether America’s Team will continue to rebuild the defense (as they did in the draft last year) or focus on the offensive side of the football in an effort to create more balance and replace players that could leave in free agency. Let’s take a fresh look at what could possibly happen for the Cowboys. I did a full, seven-round mock draft using the Pro Football Focus mock simulator.

With the 24th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select …

Kenyon Green, Guard – Texas A&M

The Cowboys’ offensive line did an admirable job in trying to protect quarterback Dak Prescott, but they just couldn’t hold up to pressure coming from the interior rush from defenders. Connor Williams played well at times, but there were just too many instances where he was being pushed back into Prescott forcing him out of the pocket or drawing bad holding penalties throughout the entire season.

Texas A&M’s Kenyon Green is seen as one of, if not the, best interior offensive linemen in this draft. If he drops down to the 24th spot, the Cowboys need to sprint to the podium to announce the pick.

Green would give Dallas something they’ve been missing: a stable and proven guard to help second-year center Tyler Biadasz on his left. Biadasz is a reliable and tenacious guard that can lead this offensive line into the future.

Green’s size and physical nature would be a welcome match to Pro-Bowl guard Zack Martin whose use of power and good hand control allows him to control defenders at the line and move them where he wants. He’s strong in the running game as well as in the passing game.
