3 possible replacements for Cowboys’ Michael Gallup in free agency
1. Will Fuller, Miami Dolphins
2021 Stat Line: 4 receptions, 26 yards, and zero touchdowns
I know, I know. Will Fuller is someone that we all assume is going to be holding out for big money once again this season, the same way he did before signing with the Miami Dolphins. He also has issues when it comes to staying healthy. Plus, he was suspended six games for PED’s last season.
All of that has the possibility to scare off quite a few teams that either don’t want to pay for an injury-prone receiver or worry about another suspension. This actually makes him the perfect candidate for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones because he can be had at a cheaper rate. Dallas, if able to pull this off, would be getting a receiver with 4.3 speed that has made a career out of catching deep balls every time he steps on the field.
Fuller would also bring notoriety that will force defensive coordinators to keep safeties deep which would open up the middle of the field for Prescott in the passing game. It could also help running back Ezekiel Elliott to exploit on the ground. Dallas would also be a perfect spot for Fuller as he wouldn’t have to be forced into making plays like he was as the No. 2 receiver in Houston and Miami.
Landry Hat’s Salary Cap Projection: 2 years and $5 million a season with incentives based on injuries.
While many people would love to see Gallup stay with the Cowboys, it all depends on what the front office can figure out with the salary cap situation. The reality is that Dallas may need to replace this young, talented receiver. Any of these choices would be a great option.
