2. Tre’Quan Smith, New Orleans Saints

2021 Stat Line: 32 receptions, 377 yards, and three touchdowns

The former UCF star receiver hasn’t lived up to his third-round pick draft stock the New Orleans Saints used to take him back in 2018. To be fair, when you have a receiver like Michael Thomas and a dual-threat running back in Alvin Kamara, quarterbacks are going to focus on getting those guys the ball each week.

What makes Tre’Quan Smith such an intriguing free agent possibility is his 4.4-second 40-yard dash speed, which is already something he’s shown can make him a dangerous target in the league when given the chance. He has a respectable 13.3 yards per reception for his career and each season has had a reception for over 30 yards with his longest coming in 2018 on a 62-yard reception.

His lack of use after Drew Brees retired and Jameis Winston’s injury and injury history could give the Cowboys the opportunity to bide their time and get Smith later in free agency after the early spending spree subsides and Stephen Jones is ready to dip his toe in the free agency pool.

Spotrac’s Salary Cap Projection: 3 years and $4.5 million a season.
