After two years of being a team with no name, the Dallas Cowboys’ NFC East rival finally has a new name: the Washington Commanders. It’s a little ridiculous that it took two years to come up with a name that isn’t very exciting. But, nonetheless, the organization had a big reveal Wednesday morning on The Today Show in hopes of creating hype about a team who went 7-10.

Washington wasn’t very good at keeping the secret either. For months now, people all over social media have been linking information hinting that the nickname would be the Commanders. From the website redirects to the leaked photos, many people knew this was coming far before the reveal. Ironically, an NBC helicopter (the very network that was hosting the reveal) ruined the surprise last night by flying over the stadium and zooming in on the team store.

Oh, Washington. You may have a new name, but it doesn’t seem to be keeping you from making the same old mistakes. FedEx Field is still riddled with equipment issues. Your quarterback situation is far from solved. And, there were many flaws with your elaborate reveal. Let’s take a look at some of them.

The Washington Football Team new name reveal is riddled with mistakes and steals from Cowboys

Despite it’s best efforts, many on Twitter were trolling Washington for the several issues that came with their new nickname – especially Cowboys reporters. Here are some of the biggest gaffes.

Their main logo already has factual errors. The circular logo seen above says that the team won the Super Bowl in 1983, 1988, and 1992. Yes, the NFL season does technically occur over two years, but no team bases it off the year of the Super Bowl. And, your team website lists your storied history with 1982, 1987, and 1991! They even have their Super Bowl ring photos on the website which clearly show the proper year. What was the logic here?!

And… psst. By the way, Washington. The Cowboys won the Super Bowl in 1992!

Onto mistake number two. With two years to come up with a name, slogan, and design, the Washington Football Team couldn’t even come up with an original hashtag slogan. They stole #TakeCommand from the San Antonio Alliance of American Football team. It’s almost like they want us to troll them?

The last thing that made Cowboys fans specifically bitter was the addition of stars on their new logo. So, not only are you going to claim you won the Super Bowl the year America’s Team did, but you’re also going to use stars in your logo?

It’s always easy to troll your rival, but Washington definitely didn’t do themselves any favors. The Washington Football Team (while that was the team name) never defeated Dak Prescott. Let’s hope the Commanders don’t either. Congrats on the name, pals!
